Area players, colleges in NCAA football statistical rankings

A quick look at where some area players and teams rank among the NCAA leaders:

-- Lake Erie College sophomore running back Anthony Bilal (Riverside) is tied for the Division II lead with nine touchdowns. Bilal is ranked fourth with 517 rushing yards through three games.

-- Lake Erie College is ranked 11th in total offense (534.7 ypg). In an encouraging sign, the Storm moved from 158th to 137th in total defense following this past weekend's 35-17 victory over Wayne State. They are allowing 487.3 yards per game.

-- Notre Dame College is ranked 50th in Division II in total offense (452.3 ypg). NDC junior quarterback Ray Russ (South) is ranked 23rd with 872 passing yards.

-- John Carroll leads Division III in total defense (148.5 ypg). The Blue Streaks are ranked second in scoring defense (3.5 ppg).

-- John Carroll junior quarterback Mark Myers, a Pitt transfer, is seventh in total offense (375.5 ypg).
